Where to live in Brisbane: a suburb guide to finding your fit

Choosing where to live in Brisbane starts with your everyday trips and the home your household needs. This guide compares nine suburbs across the inner city, north, south, east and west, with attention to transport, food, parks and housing choices.

New Farm and West End offer inner-city routines built around local shops and public transport. Nundah adds a northside railway station, while Chermside centres daily errands around major shopping and bus connections.

On the southside, Sunnybank combines Asian food shopping with housing options to inspect against your space needs. Carindale offers another comparison for larger households, with a bus interchange and local park access to check.

Wynnum brings a bayside setting, Toowong combines transport and shopping in the inner west, and Paddington offers a café strip with hills that deserve a walking test.

Budget advice explains how to use the RTA's rent data alongside current listings. Check actual journeys through Translink; a suburb name alone won't tell you how convenient an address will be.

The inspection checklist covers heat, noise, stairs and household essentials. It also points you to Council's Flood Awareness Map and official school catchment guidance. Visit shortlisted homes at different times, carry out an ordinary errand and compare the compromises each address would require. Research was checked on 25 October 2026.
